With the addition of 5 pole RST POWER connectors for high currents up to 50 A Wieland Electric extends its gesis^®®IP+ product range. Due to the small and compact size the round connectors of type RST50i5 bridge a gap in the market, because well-known connectors for the same current-carrying capability are significantly larger.

The two-piece connectors can be mounted with only a few flicks of the wrist and enable a quick and reliable on-site installation of electrical devices. The device connectors for installation inside housings can be mounted easily to a cut-out prepared for M32 cable glands. An adapter ring in an already prepared M40 cut-out takes care of the required centering.

Sophisticated locking mechanisms avoid time-consuming mounting operations. In addition to the proven screw connection technology the components are also available in crimp connection technology - ideal for industrial pre-assembly. The user-friendly bayonet lock can also protect against accidental disconnection of the connector (if necessary with sealing wire).

The round connectors are suitable for use in almost all industries, such as

- in solar technology for inverters, where large wire cross sections must be connected in mainly confined spaces;

- for construction power systems to avoid exploitation of the supply by third parties or unrelated trades;

- for power supply of mobile homes or construction site containers;

- in shipbuilding for power supply;

- for power distribution in industrial systems and battery charge systems, as well as

- in building installation technology.

The connectors and device connectors are designed for 250/400 V and max. 50 A and provide IP66/67 protection. Approvals in accordance with VDE, UL and CSA are being prepared. A 3 pole variation will be available by the end of 2009.

The modular installation system gesis^®®IP+ consists of four basic components: connectors for assembly on site; distribution units with mounting flanges; pre-assembled cables in any lengths required; and device connectors for installation in a housing as an interface to consumer devices. Covers are used to safely close unused contacts. The high IP protection is therefore maintained when the device is unplugged.

Based on the successful gesis^®® system for pluggable building installation and automation, gesis^®®IP+ provides the required robustness for industrial areas. Pluggable installation means saving up to 70% of installation time and reducing the total costs by 30%.

gesis^®®IP+ can be used in industries such as general mechanical and system engineering, in wind power plants, in elevator engineering, in event/advertising technology as well as in pre-fabricated industrial construction. Until now the system was able to handle rated currents up to 25 A.
